The slitting blade is made of high-quality tool steel and high-alloy die steel and is suitable for slitting operating and various types of slitting machine. Slitting knives are the most important part of cutting tools. Because of the requirement for the accuracy of the product, the slitting knives require high accuracy and must have micron-level accuracy. In the manufacturing process, the accuracy of the slitting blades determines the accuracy of the product cut and the quality of the product.

A good slitting machine requires that the slitting blade has the smallest cutting resistance, the highest wear resistance, and the sharp and durable cutting edge. The slitting blades are widely used in papermaking, paper products processing, adhesive tape products, films, wires and cables, rubber, aluminum foil, chemical fiber, non-manufactured cloth, composite packaging materials, telecommunications appliances, cigarettes, leather, printing, food, and clothing industries.

Material type of slitting blade

Choosing the right blade material for different shear slitting applications is critical to maximizing uptime, reducing material loss and maintenance costs. A professional industrial knife manufacturer will analyze your specific budget, materials, and runtime requirements to recommend the ideal material and configuration of the slitting blades. Nanjing Jingfeng Knife Manufacturing CO., Ltd. is a professional slitting blade manufacturer.

52100 steel slitting blades

52100 steel slitting blade has the shortest wear life, so it is rarely recommended for shear slitting applications. 52100 steel slitting blade is inexpensive, therefore, using it must be maintained frequently and replace blunt blades. Usually, such slitting blades do not need to be sharpened. Worn slitting blades are discarded and replaced with new blades. However, a slitting blade made of 52100 steel is necessary when cutting specific plastic materials because it generates a small amount of heat during the cutting process.

D2 steel slitting blade

D2 steel is the most commonly used material for the top and bottom slitting blades. D2 steel slitting blade has a long wear life and is easy to sharpen. It is also a versatile material for cutting and slitting applications involving plastics and paper. From wear and low budget perspective, D2 steel’s slitting blades are often the most cost-effective option.

M2 steel slitting blades

M2 steel is commonly used for upper and lower slitting blades. And because it is harder and tougher than D2 steel, the M2 steel slitting blade has a longer service life. Slitting blades made of M2 steel are generally recommended for cutting and slitting applications involving nonwovens and paper because these materials are highly abrasive and cause rapid blade wear.

10V CPM

This steel is highly regarded for its abrasion resistance, making it ideal for applications that require long runs and shearing of various materials (multilayer plastics, paper, and nonwovens). Slitting blades made of CPM 10V steel are easy to sharpen, which helps reduce the high cost of using such blades.

Cemented carbide slitting blade

In environments that require a 24-hour uninterrupted operation, carbide slitting blades are ideal for bottom blades. Cemented carbide slitting blade maintains sharpness by cutting long coils of abrasive. Mounting inserts are made of D2 steel, while cemented carbide is only mounted at the point of the compression to provide the greatest benefit while minimizing costs.

Angle introduction of slitting blades

Regardless of the material being cut, the slitting blades should have a rounded edge. Experience has shown that different combinations of included angles and edge radii may produce satisfactory results in cutting specific materials.

Application of slitting blades

Our slitting blades can cut a variety of materials, including:

Paper

Slitting blades can create various gaps and perforations in the paper. For example, a toothed slitter blade creates a tearable line for paper products.

Corrugated products

Products, such as corrugated paper and paperboard, require high-quality blades for best cutting results. Professionally made slitting blades form a slit in these materials while keeping their edges smooth.

Food and meat

Slitting knives can slice and scratch various food and meat products. Nanjing Jingfeng Knife Manufacturing CO., Ltd. is a professional slitting blade manufacturer, which can develop customized cutting blades for meat cutting and food processing applications.

Aluminum foil and film

Precision slitting blades have the sharpness needed to smoothly slit foils. At the same time, special slitting blades can be customized to cut other fine materials (such as film).

Textiles

Fabrics require strong blades to hold the edges of the textiles during regular cutting operations.

Plastic

Slitting blades provide good clarity and durability and are suitable for plastics of various thicknesses and compositions.

Slitting blade sharpening

When the slitting blade becomes dull in the middle of the roller leading to the scrapping of slitting material, the production loss will be more complicated. Choosing the ideal blade material based on application and run-time requirements can avoid costly downtime and material loss. D2 steel is the most commonly used material for shear slitting. In applications where the material to be cut will increase blade wear, M2 steel, cemented carbide and CPM 10V steel can be used to extend blade life.

Slitting blades can be sharpened to extend their life. When the slitting blade becomes blunt, the slitting operation is stopped. At the same time, the whole rod setting is removed, and the blade is replaced.

Most slitting blades are sturdy and solid round blades. Therefore, it is not possible to replace a single blade on the rod without removing all the blades. When a single blade becomes dull, chipped or cracked, replacing each blade (or at least removing and putting it back on the production line) can take several hours. This depends on the number of slitting blade settings on the production line. The split lower knife allows the operator to change a single blade without having to replace all the blades.

The split lower blade replaces the solid round blade and is divided into two parts: an upper blade, and a lower blade. When the blade becomes dull, the split lower blade can be pulled out and reinstalled. The entire operation can be performed from any position on the rod using only a torque wrench.
